The Whiskeytown National Recreation area is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend.
A special celebration called "Symphony on the Beach" takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. at "Brandy Creek Beach."
It kicks off with the dedication of the "Historic Stephen Mather Plaque" in recognition of the first director of the National Park Service.
The event is free, including parking, and will go on "smoke or shine."
Following the plaque dedication is the sealing of a time capsule that will be opened in 50 years.
There will also be a lighted boat parade and a performace by the Shasta Symphony.
