Brian Weissinger entered a plea of not guilty in a Butte County Superior Courtroom today. The 33-year-old Chico man was arrested and charged for the homicide of his mother, 71-year-old Rochanah Weissinger.
Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an apartment on Morseman Avenue on January 15 to a report of a family disturbance. While the deputies were en route, the Chico Fire Department received a call of a female down at the same residence. Responding deputies arrived at the residence and found Rochanah deceased in the residence.
Neighbors told deputies the two were in an argument prior to their arrival and Brian had gone to a relative’s house nearby where he was eventually detained but not arrested. During the investigation the autopsy revealed Rochanah had died as a result of strangulation, according to the Sheriff’s Office. After the autopsy report was released Brian was arrested on January 17 and booked into the Butte County Jail.
Brian Weissinger is currently being held on $1,000,000 bail. His next scheduled court date is February 17.
