A very weak storm pressed through the North State today, but all it brought us were a few high clouds which knocked temperatures down just a bit... definitely no rain. Clearing skies overnight will lead to a bit of fog early Friday morning in the Sacramento Valley, especially in Yuba & Sutter counties. Look for patchy fog in Butte, Glenn & Colusa counties, and no fog in Shasta or Tehama counties. A bit of a north breeze Friday will dry the atmosphere out enough that fog shouldn't be an issue this weekend.
Strong high pressure this weekend (and that light north breeze) will help Valley highs warm into the 70's! We'll be close to record highs. The ridge will break down next week, and a bit of subtropical moisture will surge northward (unusual for January). This could bring us a few showers next week, but not much. Longer range models are trying to bring rain back to us in early February, but they've been inconsistent in the details... so we'll see.
