A wanted parole violator in Tehama County, trying to escape capture, is dead after drowning in the Sacramento River Tuesday evening. It happened just after 5 p.m. near the Aramayo Bridge in Los Molinos.

Assistant Tehama County sheriff Phil Johnston tells Action News Now the 38 year man was spotted by Sheriff's deputies. In an effort to get away, he jumped into the river and almost immediately began to struggle in the water. He disappeared and never resurfaced. The man's body was recovered downstream. His name has not been released. He was wanted for reportedly removing an ankle monitor.
