Chico police have arrested a wanted parolee after a SWAT team raid on his home Wednesday turned up several assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
The Chico Police Department said the wanted parolee, 37-year-old Benjamin Jeffrey Ruggles, was arrested without incident during a search of his home on Panama Avenue. Police said there was a warrant for Ruggles’ arrest issued recently by the California Department of Corrections.
In recent days, police received information that Ruggles was in possession of illegal assault weapons. They obtained a search warrant and served it Wednesday morning.
Police said they found two high-capacity assault rifles with high-capacity magazines. They also located over 1,000 rounds of ammunition and a significant amount of marijuana packaged for sales.
Ruggles has been booked into the Butte County Jail on the CDC warrant, and the district attorney’s office is expected to file weapons charges.
