The North Valley Animal Disaster Group is gearing up for a busy wildfire season ahead and needs volunteers now more than ever.
Training ahead of time is critical for anyone who wants to volunteer to help rescue animals during disasters like fires and floods, and the non-profit organization’s annual two day certification training takes place this coming weekend, January 25 and 26.
NVADG responds to local incidents, as well as national and international disasters. In addition to local emergencies, deployments include helping to shelter more than 100 pit bulls seized in a three state dog-fighting case last April, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines last December.
Volunteers with different abilities and job backgrounds are needed.
New and returning volunteers are required to attend the certification training. Classes will be held at the Chico Fire Training Center, at 1466 Humboldt Road.
