SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Authorities have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a sightseeing bus in San Francisco as an 82-year-old local resident.
The medical examiner's office says the victim was Pieter Roell. Police have said a man was crossing the street in the city's Pacific Heights neighborhood when he was hit and crushed under the wheels of a Hop-On Hop-Off Tour Bus on Saturday afternoon.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told the San Francisco Chronicle he saw the man wave and shout at the driver as the bus was making a right-hand turn.
Police said the driver and his employer were cooperating with investigators.
In November, a runaway City Sightseeing double-decker bus crashed in downtown's Union Square, injuring 20 people.
