Lake Oroville saw some veterans on its waters today, as California State Parks were free to veterans and active military.
This free admission is part of Assembly Bill 150, which was signed into law last year.
California Parks employee and army veteran Chuck Kinsey runs the gate at the Oroville Marina.
As part of his duties today, he asked passengers in each car that passed through if they were a veteran or not.
Kinsey said this is the first year the state has done this, and appreciates it all the more because he's a veteran.
“[The veterans] can't believe it,” Kinsey said. “They say it's a good thing, people that aren't veterans say it's a good thing, what the state is doing, you know, for the veterans.”
Disabled veterans can get a special pass that entitles them to discounts year round.
