The Veterans' Garden Project will be giving away free vegetable and flower plants on Saturday, May 4th, at the Humboldt Community Garden.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. - Noon. The Community Garden is located at the corner of El Monte Avenue and Humboldt Road across from Marsh Jr. High School in Chico.
The Veterans' Garden Project consists of 22 raised beds in the heart of the Humboldt Community Garden.
Veterans are welcome to work in the garden on site, or they can take their new starts home to plant.
The starts are grown in a green house managed by Michael Cannon and Michelle Angela in Butte Creek Canyon.
Organizers say gardening can provide solace, a time for reflection, with many rewards.
The project is funded in part fro a block grant through the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Donations for the non profit are also accepted through the North Valley Community Foundation. For more information look for the Veterans' Garden Project on Facebook, and to donate visit
