Vehicle Chase Ends with Shots Fired in Cottonwood

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of shots fired following a car chase through Cottonwood. Authorities received reports of a yellow H2 Hummer chasing a grey Toyota 4-runner through residential streets in Cottonwood around 8:30 p.m. last night.
Deputies stopped the driver of the hummer, Jim Haagenson, and found him to be a member of the California State Militia - a Cottonwood citizen's watch group. He told them that he was following the car that he knew had been stolen earlier that morning and the driver failed to stop and would end up leading him on a chase.
When the vehicle pursuit ended and the man in the 4-runner took off on foot, Haagenson claims that he fired 3 to 5 shots into the ground as the suspect approached him in the backyard of a home on Frances Street. The man then ran off. He is described as a Hispanic man around 5'8" with dark hair. Anyone with information is asked to call the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
