CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is planning a number of prescribed fire operations that will begin as early as next week and run through the middle of May around Lake Tahoe, Reno, Carson City and Douglas County.
Officials for the agency's Carson Ranger District say they hope to begin burning slash piles next Monday at project sites covering a total of about 600 acres.
The sites stretch from Markleeville, California south of Tahoe, to areas around Mount Rose and Peavine Mountain on the edge of Reno.
Crews also plan fuels reduction work in Dog Valley, Washoe Valley, and at the Clear Creek drainage area off U.S. Highway 50 below Spooner Summit. All burning is subject to weather and fuel conditions.
