USFS: Eiler Fire Grows to 23,000 Acres: Eight Homes Lost So far

The United States Fire Service says the Eiler Fire has grown to nearly 23,000 acres with still 0 percent contaiment at this time.

Evacuations orders remain in effect for the communities of Hat Creek, Cassel, Big Eddy Estates, and Johnson Park in Eastern Shasta County due to the Eiler fire. As of this hour, there have been no new evacuation orders, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

However, residents living in the Burney area being advised to prepare to evacuate if an evacuation order is given. A Red Cross shelter has been set up at Fall Fiver Mills High School.

Action News Now has also received reports of at least eight homes and 20 other structures destroyed near the Honn Creek Campground area.

Highway 299 remains closed between Black ranch Road and Glen Burn Road. Highway 89 remains closed between Highway 299 and Highway 44.

The fire began Thursday evening about six miles north of Old Station in the Thousands Lakes Wildnerness Area early Thursday evening. The fire was sparked by lightning. There is still no containment on the fire.
