The Shasta-Trinity National Forest will pay homage to Martin Luther King Jr. by waiving fees for recreation sites on the day of his birth.
Visitors will be able to visit one of the areas many parks free of charge Jan. 18. Fees are waived for day-use areas, such as picnic grounds, developed trailheads and destination visitor centers. Addition sites may be included in the waiver if the permit holder wishes to participate.
Areas included in the fee waiver are:
Shasta and Trinity Lake Area:
Weaverville and Big Bar areas:
Officials said the fee waiver for Hayden Flat and Pigeon Point only applied to the family campground, not the group camp sites.
Forest Rangers said no fees are charged at any time on 98 percent of national forests and grasslands, and approximately two-thirds of developed recreation sites in national forests and grasslands can be used for free.
