It’s been a very tough year for one local woman.
After losing her husband earlier this year, a Chico woman recently lost his ashes after her home was broken into.
“I’m devastated,” said the woman who did not want to be identified. “Not only did I lose my husband, now I basically lost him twice.”
The theft happened sometime Monday afternoon in a west Chico neighborhood while victim was a work. When she returned home, she noticed the side door of her garage was broken into. Upon further investigation, she discovered her house was ransacked her home and jewelry, cash and checks were stolen.
“I don't care about anything else they stole,” she said. “But I would like my husband’s ashes; I would like those returned.”
The stolen urn was inside a red velvet bag with a golden rope.
