(UPDATE) 3:51 p.m.-The Glenn County Sheriff’s Department has identified the man who was beaten and stabbed in his Willows home last night as 55-year-old John Joseph Arano.

According to what Enloe Hospital Officials relayed to the Sheriff’s Department, Arano told hospital officials before his surgery two white male adults entered his unlocked home during the night, beat him, and stabbed him repeatedly. He stated he lost consciousness during the attack.

The Sheriff’s Department has stated robbery does not appear to be a motive.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department.

A 55-year-old Willows man is in surgery this afternoon after being stabbed multiple times by an unknown number of assailants in his home last night, Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones confirmed this afternoon.

Jones said his deputies responded to the victim’s residence at 414 North Colusa St. just after 11 a.m. this morning after the victim’s niece found him in a pool of his own inside the entrance to his bedroom. The man was transported to Glenn Medical Center and eventually airlifted to Enloe Medical Center where he is currently undergoing surgery. Sheriff Jones indicated the man had been beaten and stabbed “multiple times.”

“The victim was very vague on what happened and said he thought there could have been two assailants who attacked him during the night,” Jones said. “He had dinner with his niece at 7 p.m. last night. His family tried to contact him earlier this morning but he did not respond. When his niece went to his house, she found him on the floor where it appeared he had been there for some time.”

Although it remains unclear at this time if anything was stolen, Jones indicated the house didn’t appear to be ransacked but said all four tires on the victim’s car were slashed. The department is currently investigating this case as an attempted homicide.

The Sheriff’s Department does not have a lead on any suspects at this time.
