(UPDATED) Late night accident in Redding leaves one man dead

(UPDATE) 9:35 a.m.- The Redding Police Department has released more information regarding a traffic accident which left one man dead on Churn Creek Road late last night.

Investigators have confirmed the identity of the deceased as 30-year-old Ruben Calderon of Redding. Action News Now spoke with Calderon’s father at the scene of the accident this morning.

According to investigators, Calderon was driving north on Churn Creek Road around 11:30 p.m. last night when he lost control of his Chevy Tahoe and entered the southbound lane where his Tahoe collided with a 1996 Volvo sedan. Immediately after the crash, the driver of the Volvo was seen by a witness leaving the scene in another vehicle, according to the Redding Police Department. They were seen leaving in a dark SUV.

The department’s press release also stated the driver of the Volvo was likely injured and blood was left at the scene at the accident. The extent of their injury is unknown.

Calderon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department also believes alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and are looking into whether both Calderon and the driver of the Volvo where under the influence. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Redding Police Department.

The two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a Sedan left one man dead.

Action News Now talked to the victim's father on scene, who named his 30-year-old son as Ruben Caldron.

Redding.com reports the driver of one of the cars fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV with a 49ers sticker.

Churn Creek Road between Canby and Palacio Roads was closed for several hours as police investigated the accident.
