UPDATE; The Webb Fire in Butte County which burned outside of bangor this evening tripled in size before it was finally 100% contained. The fire was first reported at one this afternoon by a fire crew returning from a smaller fire on La Porte Road.
By 5PM, the fire had spread to 20 acres and over the next hour it burned more than 50 acres as winds and rough terrain helped move the fire. By 7pm, fire crews had fully contained the blaze at 75 acres.
No structures were damaged or threatened. The fire burned mostlly grass and oak trees. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire equipment and crews will remain at the scene of the incident throughout the night and tomorrow to extinguish hot spots and strengthen the containment lines.
Butte County firefighters say they have stopped a vegetation fire burning about 20 acres near Bangor.
The fire is one of two that broke out a little after 1 p.m. in the area of La Porte and Webb Creek Roads. The other fire was contained at roughly a quarter of an acre just minutes after it broke out.
No structures were threatened and no injuries have been reported,but traffic controls are in place on La Porte Road because so many emergency vehicles are in the area. Smoke from the incident has been seen as far away as Paradise.
The cause of both fires is under investigation.
