Butte County Sheriff's Coroners office Thursday identified the woman struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle Wednesday night in Chico.
Elizabeth Lewis, 48, of Chico was walking the intersection of West Sacramento and Citrus avenues around 7:30 Wednesday night where a witness said he believed the victim was hit then dragged by an SUV. The SUV then fled the scene.
When officers arrived on scene, all they found was personal property in the roadway. It was about 45 minutes later that someone located an unconscious woman near the intersection of W. 6th Ave and Warner Street, about a half mile away.
Lewis’ injuries were consistent with a vehicle collision. She was then transported to the hospital where she later died from those injuries.
The suspect vehicle was only described as a white SUV, possibly a 4-door.
Anyone with home security cameras in that area are being asked to check for footage of this incident and vehicles matching the description, specifically between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
If anyone saw the collision or has any information about the incident, they are encouraged to call Chico Police at (530)-897-4911
