One man has been arrested for attempted murder after an overnight stabbing and shooting incident in north Redding.

Redding Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Jason Way around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police investigation revealed that Bethany Riedel and her husband Corey Beaty had befriended a transient, 34 year old Bryan Blankenship and allowed him to stay at their residence on Monday night.

Police say Beaty and Blankenship consumed alcohol throughout the evening, and sometime after Riedel went to bed, an altercation took place between the men.

Blankenship is reported to have stabbed Beaty several times, and at some point during the altercation,

Beaty took the knife and stabbed Blankenship.

Riedel was awoken by sounds of her husband screaming, and she came to find Blankenship choking and stabbing him.

Riedel retrieved a firearm to protect her husband, and reportedly shot Blankenship one time in the upper leg.

Both Blankenship and Beaty were transported to receive medical attention, and both are expected to survive.

Riedel was interviewed by police, but to this point has not been arrested for the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and will be turned over to the DA's office for review.
