UPDATE: Shasta Co. Sheriffs release photo of Anderson double homicide suspect

UPDATE: Anderson Police Friday released a mugshot of the man suspected in the murder of Micheal Helsby, 57-years-old, of Anderson and his girlfriend, Georgia Engelhaupt, 61-years-old, also of Anderson.

Police said this mugshot of suspect Anthony Baxter is from a 2009 arrest. No indication was made as to when an updated photo will be released.

Police are still investigating the scene and said they will release more information as its known at a later time.


Anderson police are investigating a double homicide after two people were found dead at an apartment complex in Anderson Thursday.

Chief of Police Michael Johnson said they have arrested a suspect, Anthony Baxter, 39, of Shasta County.

Officers were called to an apartment near the 1600 block of Manter Drive Thursday afternoon.

Police reports an elderly couple were found dead in one of its rooms.

APD are not releasing the victims’ identities and will conduct an autopsy.

Police said a hammer was found in the room near the bodies, but did not say it was connected to the deaths.

Police add they cannot release the relationship of the suspect to the couple.

Johnson said Shasta County Sheriffs SWAT team helped Anderson Police serve a search warrant on 1700 block of Shasta Street in Anderson. That is where Police said Baxter was hiding overnight.

According to reporter Angela Musallam, Meadow Lane Middle School and Anderson Union High was briefly locked down Friday morning as SWAT team served an arrest warrant for Baxter.

Crime scene investigation is being done by the California Department of Justice.
