More than 90 volunteers are still searching for 81-year-old John Darwin Chesley who has been missing since Saturday around 1:00 p.m. in Oroville.
The Butte County Search and Rescue said today that Chesley may be introducing himself as Darwin. He went by Darwin for the first 40-50 years of his life and sometimes still uses the name.
The rescue team said they are searching a very large area in a direction west of 184 Peak View Dr. in Oroville, where Chesley was last seen. Volunteers searched from sun up to sun down yesterday and started early this morning and will continue the search as long as daylight is available.
Six different Sheriff’s Offices have provided resources including special tracking dogs and more man power.
Chesley has a history of dementia and trouble hearing. He was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt and blue or black tennis shoes. Police say he likes to make piles of rocks or sticks and if anyone finds something like this they should alert police because Chesley may be close.
If anyone sees Chesley or has any information they should call the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 538-7321.
