Update: CHP officials say a rear tire of the truck caught fire near the Mountain Gate exit on southbound Interstate 5 in Redding before 5 a.m. this morning. It eventually spread to the back of the big rig, which was carrying several wood pallets. Other motorists on the freeway were able to notify the driver of the big rig and got him to pull over. Firefighters put the flames out within minutes and no injuries have been reported. According to the CHP, one lane on the southbound side is back open but the other is still closed while crews mop up the scene.
