UPDATE: North Chico Fire Burned 17 Acres

(UPDATE) 5:32 p.m. - According to Cal Fire, the blaze was caused by a homeowner who was burning property illegally in his yard. He has been cited. Currently, there is a burn ban in effect throughout Butte County.

(UPDATE) 3:02 p.m.-
The fire burning in the Mud Creek near Hicks Lane has been fully contained. No homes were burned, and mop up of the area is expected to take several hours due to the junked cars, trailers, and wood piles which burned. Action News will have more at 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) 12:33-
The vegetation fire in north Chico has increased to five acres. No homes have been burned but a number of structures are threatened. No word on containment yet.

(UPDATE) 12:19 p.m.- We have just received word from our reporter on scene the fire is still burning largely out of control towards the Mud Creek area north of the Chico Airport. More crews are being called in to assist on the fire.

We are currently at the scene of a vegetation fire east of Hicks Lane and south of Oasis Drive in Chico. The fire is burning approximately two acres and is threatening a few structures. Two Chico Fire engines are on scene and a request for water tenders was just made over the scanner. We will bring you further information as it comes in.
