(UPDATE) 4:23 p.m.- We have confirmed with officials at the scene the deceased victim of the fatal accident which has closed Highway 99 south of Los Molinos this afternoon was a young boy who was not in a safety seat. The mother was taken to an area hospital in critical condition after suffering major, undisclosed injuries.
According to what our reporters have gathered at the scene, the woman and the young child were on Sherwood Boulevard awaiting to turn left onto Highway 99 in their Nissan Maxima when an 18-year-old male pulling a trailer slammed into the back of their Maxima. As a result the Maxima was pushed directly into the path of a big rig. As previously mentioned, the young boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and the mother was taken to an area hospital with major injuries.
All traffic south of the accident has been detoured onto South Avenue, all traffic north of the accident has been detoured onto Aramayo Road. There is currently no estimated time when Highway 99 will be fully opened.
Action News Now has just confirmed a traffic accident near Sherwood Boulevard just south of Los Molinos is currently blocking both lanes of Highway 99. The accident was initially reported just before 1:30 p.m. CHP has also confirmed a fatality in the accident. The CHP has also reported some of the vegetation near the scene of the accident has also caught fire. CHP’s Northern Division Dispatch was unable to provide information regarding detours at this time. We have a photographer on scene and well will continue to provide you with the latest.
