Update: The five-alarm fire that ravaged a construction site in San Francisco has been extinguished. The building that caught fire was slated to be a 360-unit apartment building. The area where the blaze broke out is not too far from a UC San Francisco Medical Campus and the San Francisco Giants stadium, AT&T Park. One firefighter was reportedly taken to the hospital for burns to his hands and face. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A five-alarm fire is burning in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood, sending a plume of black smoke high into the sky.

San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge says the fire, which began Tuesday afternoon, is ravaging a high-rise building on Fourth Street and is continuing to move down the block.

Talmadge says the building was under construction, which makes battling the blaze more difficult because the building's fire suppression systems had not yet been installed.
