Update: Eiler fire near Burney

Update from Shasta Sheriff on Evacuations:
The evacuation area has been extended to Mount Pleasant.

An evacuation shelter has been established at the Fall River High School.

The blaze that broke out July 31st in the Lassen National Forest has grown to 6,932 acres and is 0% contained. Two hand crews are battling the fire lines from the ground. A total of 58 personnel are working on the fire. More crews are being requested at this time.

Highway 89 is closed from 299 to 44 at Old Station. 50 homes are threatened, and evacuations have been ordered along Highway 89 from Doty to Wilcox Roads. An evacuation center has been set up at Fall River High School.

Gusty winds are expected today.

No injuries have been reported at this time.


A new fire exploded in Shasta County Friday afternoon called the Eiler fire. As of 11pm Friday evening, it has burned more than 5,500 acres, 0% containment and has a rapid rate of spread.

It's located about 12 miles southwest of Burney, near the Thousand Lakes Wilderness Area. Hwy 89 is closed due to the fire from the junction with Hwy 299 near Burney to the junction of Hwy 44.

Evacuatations have been ordered near the fire including 4 service camp grounds.

The Eiler fire started from a lightning strike Thursday evening around 6pm.
