CHP officers are investigating a fatal car crash in Chico.

It happened just a little after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of Highway 99, just north of East 20th Street.

According to a CHP investigator on scene, a man driving a Volvo with Colorado plates approached a traffic backup, caused by construction, but failed to slow down. The Volvo slammed into the back of a GMC SUV and rolled, killing the driver.

A family of four was in the SUV. Two boys received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The name of the driver of the Volvo who died has not been released. We do know he had a Colorado drivers license.
