UPDATE: Glenn County Sheriff's investigators say they still don't know the identity of the man whose body was found severely burned in an orchard south of Hamilton City Saturday, but they have revealed they were able to recover one of his palm prints, which could help identify him.
They plan to enter his DNA into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), to see if they get any hits. They estimate he was placed there Tuesday or Wednesday of last week.
The man's autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Saturday: Glenn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after human remains were found in a walnut orchard on Saturday afternoon on Highway 45 near County Road 203.
Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said the property owner called dispatch around 4:19 p.m. after one of the orchard employees found the remains.
Jones says the remains look to be of a man unknown if it’s a young adult or a juvenile, the body has been in the orchards for no more than two or three days.
“The body has been extremely badly burned and it appears it was done obviously on purpose,” Sheriff Jones said.
Sheriff’s investigators called the Department of Justice criminologist and forensic pathologist to gather evidence at the scene.
Jones says investigators are trying to figure out if the man died at a different location and his body was dumped and burned in the orchards.
