Fire officials say crews have a 150-acre fire northeast of Redding 80 percent contained and have stopped forward spread.
Officials expect to have full containment by 8:00 p.m.
The fire was reported just east of Bella Vista off Highway 299 and Dry Creek Road, around 1:40 p.m. and has quickly spread, destroying a building in the process.
The fire is burning in a Cal Trans construction zone and forced the closure of part of Highway 299. One way traffic control is in effect and HWY 299 has been closed eastbound at Deschutes Road, but all road closures will be lifted at by 6:30 p.m.
Initial reports say the incident began as two spot fires. Shasta County Cal Fire, the Redding Fire Department, The U.S. Forest Service along with other agencies are battling the blaze.
Officials say the fire may be human caused, but it continues to be investigated.
