Chico State officials say the University Police Department is investigating a student's report that she was raped on campus earlier this month.

The alleged rape happened May 3 between 2:10 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. near the stop sign where College Drive intersects with the stadium lot. The suspect reportedly fled south between the Health Center and Track Stadium.

The incident was reported on May 7, and the next day UPD Police Chief Bruce Hagerty sent an email to students.

In the email, Hagerty says "the assault consisted of a forcible act of sexual penetration". According to the email, the student did not recognize the attacker, but was able to describe him as white or Hispanic, in his mid-twenties. He reportedly had a muscular build, was around 6 feet 3 inches tall and had brown hair that was buzzed on the sides and slightly longer on top.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the University Police Department at (530) 898-5555.
