Chico police arrested an unlicensed driver on suspicion of DUI after a crash on East 20th Street and Huntington Avenue Tuesday night.

The crash, between a Toyota Tundra and a Chevy Impala, happened in the intersection just before 5 p.m. Investigators say the Toyota failed to stop at a red light, causing the crash.

Police say the driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Gerardo Lopez, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, Lopez was driving with a suspended license, was in violation of his probation, and had a felony warrant for an unrelated offense.

The driver of the Impala became trapped in her vehicle after the crash and had to be extricated by Chico fire personnel. She was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment and released Tuesday night.

Lopez was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail.
