Help is on the way for the fire-ravaged community of Weed, in the form of some much needed relief funds.
The United Way of Northern California has doled-out another $9,500 to help the community recover from last year's Boles Fire, which destroyed more than 150 buildings and forced thousands of people from their homes.
$5,000 has been awarded to the College of the Siskiyou's for a new construction class that will train local residents in a variety of construction skills. The skills are expected to make the participants appealing hires for local contractors and provide more help for the town's rebuilding efforts.
The grant will provide tools and equipment for the students, while another $4,500 will go to the Weed Volunteer Fire Department.
There is still money available for people and organizations affected by the Boles Fire. You can download an application here.
