A blighted property that has become a troubled spot in one Redding neighborhood was torn down Friday.

The home, on the 3800 block of Mercury Drive had been identified by Redding Code Enforcement officials as a structure possibly inhabited by transients. The house was ravaged by fire last July, making it uninhabitable, and has been a safety concern for neighbors ever since.

Officials say it is typically a long process to take action on such a property, but Wells Fargo, which owned the property, authorized its demolition.

The demolition was carried out by Axner Excavating.
