BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Students protesting tuition hikes in the University of California system are planning walkouts at multiple campuses.
Rallies and marches and planned for Monday afternoon at UC Berkeley. Students at UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis are also planning protests Monday.
UC Berkeley sophomore Hannah Berkman told the Los Angeles Times that students will skip classes and march through Berkeley streets.
Last Thursday, the UC Board of Regents voted 14-7 to approve increases of as much as 5 percent in each of the next five years unless the state devotes more money to the system.
At UC Berkeley, police have said they will take action only in the event of significant property damage or violence.
Over the last five days, several dozen students have peacefully camped at Berkeley's Wheeler Hall, with as many as 150 students there at times.
