Uber, a taxi alternative, that connects drivers and riders through a smart-phone app, will began driver recruitment in Chico Tuesday.
A company spokesperson tells Action News Now that although the company does not have an exact launch date for Uber in Chico, the community interest has been high.
The company says residents and students in Chico have been opening the Uber app and asking the company to come to town. Some may have even noticed a few Uber cars in the area when they checked it out, however, officials say those vehicles are registered to the Sacramento branch.
Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., the company will be holding “onboarding sessions” at the Residence Inn on Carmichael Drive.
If you are interested in working as an Uber driver you must be 21 or older, pass a background check and own a vehicle that is a four-door 2005 model or newer with a clean title. The vehicle must be able to pass an inspection.
Company officials say that if you meet all of the above requirements, bring a valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance and registration with you to the Residence Inn this week.
