Two small planes collided midair and crashed into the ocean off San Pedro on Friday, officials said.
The U.S. Coast Guard and crews from various fire and police agencies converged on the spot off the San Pedro coast, near the Los Angeles Harbor, to search for any possible survivors and the plane wreckage, said Lt. Jonathan McCormick, of the U.S. Coast Guard.
A fisherman on a boat saw one of the planes crash into the water and called 911, officials said.
Dive teams planned to search the waters through the night.
The Coast Guard, meanwhile, closed the Los Angeles Harbor enterance to all vessel traffic while crews searched the debris field and the National Transportation Safety Board planned to investigate the crash.
