Two drivers were transported to Rideout Hospital after colliding head-on on SR-70 south of Chandler Road this morning. The two drivers, identified as 30year-old Justin Raber of Sacramento and 53-year-old William Stark of Oroville.
At approximately 6:40 a.m. Raber was driving north on SR 70 in his 2006 Dodge pick-up and was behind a woman in a 2007 Toyota 4Runner. The woman, identified as 30-year-old Adrienne Patterson of Quincy, observed traffic slowing down in front of her as several cars prepared to turn left into a fruit processing facility on the west side of SR 70 near Chandler Road. At the same time Stark was driving southbound on SR 70 approaching both Patterson and Raber’s location.
According to CHP, Raber failed to observe Patterson slowing down and failed to observe several cars ahead of her stopped in the northbound lane waiting for southbound traffic to clear in order to make their left turns. Raber only observed Patterson had stopped at the last moment and in doing so applied his breaks and swerved left directly into the path of Stark’s Ford Escape. Stark’s car spun around and hit the left side of Patterson’s car, but she was uninjured.
Raber had to be extracted from his vehicle by Cal Fire and both he and Stark were transported to Rideout Hospital. As of 11:30 a.m. Stark had been discharged from Rideout and Raber is in fair condition with an undisclosed leg injury.
SR 70 in the area was temporarily closed for approximately an hour.
