Two men arrested for attempting to charge Shasta man for driving on road

Two men are in custody after authorities say they tried to extort money from a Shasta County man for driving on his own road.

According to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, the suspects approached the victim with a gun and demand he pay a "Road Tax" to drive to his home on WIndy Point Road in Montgomery Creek. He refused and told authorities he was assaulted by the suspects who had guns and threatened to shoot him if he failed to pay.

The victim was able to flee and call the Sheriff's Office. The suspects were located and Raymond Lawrence,57 and Drew Oliver,27 were arrested.

A search of Lawrence's property turned up a honey oil lab, pot plants, methamphetamine and a cache of weapons, including 21 guns, some of which were storlen.

The pair faces numerous charges, including extortion and attempted robbery.
