Two arrested in Chico for attempting to cash stolen checks.

Chico Police stopped a suspected bad check writer at a check writing business this afternoon. Police were dispatched to the Cash 1 on Oroville Avenue in Chico about 12:40pm to reports of a man attempting to cash a stolen check.

The man, identified as Lawrence Studyvin, left the business and got into a vehicle. Police then conducted a traffic stop and detained him at gunpoint. A woman, identified as Samantha Gonzales, along with three juveniles were also in the vehicle.

Officers then discovered the license plate on the front of the suspect vehicle was reported stolen out of Colusa. Stolen checks and credit cards were located in the vehicle.

The children were released to their grandmother. Colusa County Detectives responded and received full confessions from both Studyvin and Gonzales regarding the thefts. Both were booked into the Butte County Jail for felony and misdemeanor charges.
