With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, many local hunters may want to bring their own turkeys to the table.
And now they have the chance—the fall wild turkey and late dove hunting seasons opened in California Saturday.
At the Chico Sportman’s Den, workers say the local turkey population is one the rise. But catching the animals is a very tough task.
“They seem to have a population growth over the past few years,” said Jared Port, Chico Sportman’s Den manager. “They just don't respond to the call quite as well in the fall so it’s harder to get their attention and get them to come to you.”
The fall wild turkey season ends Dec. 8.
