A truck fire spread to dry vegetation on Interstate 5 near Cottonwood this afternoon ... Bringing traffic to a standstill.
The CHP shut down part of both north and southbound I-5 as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
The driver of the truck was travelling north from Sacramento, hauling a meat grinder and plastic packaging, when he was flagged down by a motorcyclist around 1:40 p.m.
The cyclist told him there was smoke coming from the back of the truck.
The driver, Anthony Felice, told action news " I pulled over and I tried to get the tailgate off as well as some of the boxes out the back...and couldn't save it... It went up in flames and I called the fire department."
The fire spread to the center divide and charred about two acres.
Felice suffered minor burns to his arms. He managed to get out of the truck just in time.. he says it blew up in flames one-minute after he got out.
It took about an hour to extinguish the fire. ###
