Truck fire results from hit-and-run in Redding

Last night around 10:20 p.m. SHASCOM received a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision on Churn Creek Road near Old Alturas Road. The suspect vehicle struck a City of Redding utility box on the east sidewalk and was described as a gray pickup truck. The pickup truck caught on fire; however the driver drove away from the scene northbound on Churn Creek Road.

At around 10:23 p.m. SHASCOM received a report of a vehicle on fire in the 1100 block of Burton Drive. The burning vehicle was identified as a grey 2010 Dodge Dakota and had damage consistent with the nearby traffic collision. The registered owner of the Dodge Dakota was identified as Joshua Scroggins, 37 years, of Redding. Scroggins was contacted inside of his nearby residence and was taken into custody for three outstanding arrest warrants.

Further investigation revealed that Scroggins had been the driver during the traffic collision. Scroggins was additionally arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license. It appeared that Scroggins was wearing his seatbelt and he was uninjured. Scroggins was booked into the Shasta County jail for the listed charges.
