The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that left one man dead near Redding. It appears it may have happened a few days ago, but wasn't discovered until recently. It happened in a rural area, making it hard to see the vehicle from the roadway. CHP officers were called out to Platina Road west of Redding just before 6 p.m. last night for a report of a gold Chevy pickup that was overturned in a dry creek bed near the roadway. A CHP helicopter located the truck about a mile east of Bully Choop Road. Authorities say the driver, Michael Mummert, 61, of Hayfork was still inside the pickup and had died from injuries sustained in the crash. They also say that it appeared he had been dead for several days. It is not known whether alcohol played a factor in the crash.
