A trial date has been set in the case of a former CHP officer and convicted sex offender now accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old Chico boy.

Chico police arrested Jacob Duenas in April after investigators learned he may have sexually abused a 10-year-old boy between March and June of 2014. While appearing in court Wednesday Duenas reentered a not guilty plea and an October 19 trial date was set.

Duenas, a former CHP officer in the Monterey office, was previously convicted of two counts of misdemeanor child molestation in Monterey in 2008 involving children ages 13 and 14, and was required to register as a sex offender. He was fired from the CHP as a result.

Duenas is the son of former Cottonwood resident Mark Duenas, who was convicted of killing his wife Karen in 2013, the case made national headlines after being featured on NBC's Dateline.
