Expect delays through Chico this weekend if you're traveling on Southbound Highway 99. According to the California Highway Patrol, traffic will be reduced to one lane in the Southbound side both Saturday and Sunday. CALTRANS is kicking off a summer project to improve the concrete through Chico on Highway 99 both Northbound and Southbound, from Mud Creek to south of the Park Avenue exit. The CHP says most of the work will be performed at night, and will have little impact on traffic. But this weekend's project will inhibit the southbound lanes of the highway Saturday and Sunday. The CHP suggests finding an alternate route through town. Two minor traffic accidents have already been reported, after drivers rear-ended the vehicles ahead of them, as traffic had slowed down unexpectedly.
