Torres Shelter Ready for More Guests as Temps Drop

Torres Community Shelter is getting ready for an influx of visitors as the temperatures drop.

Torres Shelter saw four new guests Monday night, bringing its total to 68.

Executive director Brad Montgomery said there's a tendency for the shelter to react to weather like this at the last minute.

That's why he's in favor of a wet shelter too, one where the homeless would not have to go cold turkey and still find refuge.

“Whether it's self-inflicted or not, no one wants to find dead bodies in the creek, and that's the reality,” said Montgomery. “And that can happen when the weather, the elements, and substance abuse all play into each other.”

Torres Shelter has its biggest fundraiser of the year this Saturday. The 11th annual Christmas Tree Auction and Holiday Festival.

Tickets are still available.
