Tip leads to 1970 Remains Found In Corning Backyard

Following up on a tip, the Tehama County Sheriff"s Office has located the remains of a person suspected of being buried on the backyard of a Corning home in the late 1970s.

With the help of a Chico State forensic anthropologist, the remains were discovered after a dig on Saturday at a home on Loleta Avenue. The skeletal remains are believed to be that of an adult female.

The remains were removed and will be further examined in the laboratory to attempt to confirm the identity of the decedent and with the hope of determining the cause of death.

At this time, detectives are examining missing person reports from the late 1970's and identification of the deceased female is anticipated.
