FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities said three young children are hospitalized in critical condition after they were found alone inside a Central California apartment where a fire broke out.
Fresno Fire Department spokesman Pete Martinez says a boy and two girls, approximately 1, 3 and 4 years old, were unconscious when firefighters got to them Sunday afternoon. The children were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
Martinez told the Fresno Bee fire and police investigators were working to determine whether the children were left alone and identify their parent or guardian.
Battalion Chief Todd Tuggle said the fire was confined to a room corner where a television burned, causing heavy toxic smoke.
