Oroville now has a new piece of art to show off and it’s all thanks to a local organization and artist. The Oroville City Council officially accepted a stainless steel eagle sculpture on Tuesday. The eagle was made by local artist Steve Nielsen and funded by a grant from The Artists of River Town. It took Nielsen more than 2,000 hours to complete the project.
Vice Mayor Thil Wilcox says Nielsen and the eagle represent more than just an art piece. It represents the ability of many artists in town and their importance in the community. The eagle is made of more than 4,000 hand cut and polished stainless steel feathers. It's currently in the city council chambers but the city plans to move it to another location in the next few months so more people will be able to see it.
