WASHINGTON (AP) - Ten Republican presidential candidates are preparing for the first big debate of the 2016 campaign tonight. The other seven have to settle for an appearance at a pre-debate forum.
Donald Trump will have center stage. He gets the spot thanks to his top ranking in several recent national polls.
Standing to Trump's left will be former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be on his right.
At stake for the GOP: not only picking the candidate to represent them in the general election, but also selecting the direction the party will take as it tries to regain the White House.
